During a recent interview, President Tsai Ing-wen praised Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu, who is set to take on the role of Presidential Office secretary-general. Tsai said she needs Chen to help the government and coordinate within their party. She also said she has a good relationship with Premier William Lai, in response to media reports that the two don't get along.
With regards to our relationship, I will say two words: very good. I am very satisfied with his performance.
President Tsai Ing-wen recently gave an interview. During the interview, she responded directly to reports that she and Premier William Lai do not get along. Although Lai has repeatedly said during legislative interpellations that he is a "Taiwan independence worker," Tsai said when it comes to policies, he supports the government's cross-strait policy of "maintaining the status quo."
Our cross-strait policy is to maintain the status quo and maintain stability, and he agrees with this. If you ask him what his personal viewpoint is, on the whole, he is an honest person.
Tsai also spoke about Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu, who will soon become the Presidential Office secretary-general. She said the two will share communications-related tasks.
This person is named Chen Chu. Chen can share many of my communications responsibilities, to society or external parties.
Tsai will also rely on Chen to coordinate their party's nominations for Taipei and New Taipei City mayors. Chen called on Su Tseng-chang on Apr. 9, and the Democratic Progressive Party is expected to announce its New Taipei City mayoral candidate this week.
