Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu will soon head to Taipei to take on the post of Presidential Office secretary-general. On Apr. 10, she bid farewell to her Kaohsiung colleagues and thanked everyone for their support the past 12 years. She said she took on this role to help Taiwan reform. She also said she wants to return to Kaohsiung after her work in Taipei is done.

The Presidential Office will convene a press conference tomorrow morning. I will assume the position (of Presidential Office secretary-general) on Apr. 23. At this stage, the president really needs the support of Taiwan society to strengthen her reforms. I believe it is a very important task for me to help the president enable the public to understand these reforms better.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu revealed on Apr. 10 that she is assuming the position of Presidential Office secretary-general. She said she not only wants to help the president, but also help change Taiwan. Two of her top municipal officials will go with her. This includes Research, Development and Evaluation Commission Chairperson Liu Jin-xing and Deputy Secretary-General You Shang-ru. Chen also recommended that Deputy Mayor Hsu Li-ming be promoted to acting mayor. Hsu served as office manager when Chen headed the Council of Labor Affairs. He then went on to serve under Chen for 12 years in Kaohsiung. The Executive Yuan has not yet made related announcements.
