ANTI-PENSION REFORM GROUPS PROTEST AT PRESIDENT TSAI IN TAICHUNG|總統到台中 反年改團體抗議如影隨形

Yesterday President Tsai Ing-wen went to Taichung for the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce annual meeting. Anti pension reform groups gathered outside the venue to protest. 350 police officers were dispatched and they closed down the main roads. When the President's motorcade arrived at the venue, demonstrators began shouting and clamoring in protest. Once in the venue, Tsai tried to rally Taiwan businesses and assure them that Taiwan would be well-governed. Before the President's motorcade arrived at the venue, pension reform protestors got there first, wanting her to register their protest. ==PROTESTOR== Let's go, now! Ok? Everyone come with me! Anti-pension reform protestors threatened to break through barriers encircling the venue, but the police had already layers of officers, who shut off roads around the Lin Hotel from 8 am and blocked junctions. They also used large vehicles to block protestors and held up tall nets on poles, in case anyone tried to throw shoes. However, protestors were still willing to run the gauntlet. ==PROTESTOR== Why are you closing roads today? I don't know. A hotel is open to anyone who wants to go in, why is it being closed? Tell me the reason, why? The police didn't want to answer and pushed protestors back to the designated protest area. President Tsai Ing-wen's motorcade arrived and the protestors raised their voices. The President's motorcade used the quickest entrance, straight down to the basement to avoid the protestors. Once safely in the venue, Tsai gave an address to the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce, encouraging them in their business and thanking them for their support of her administration's new southbound policy. ==TSAI ING-WEN R.O.C. After her address, Tsai took a photo with the members of the chambers, spent about another ten minutes and then left the venue. Police and the Public Security Bureau shortened the time her motorcade was stopped, fearing that protestors may break through barriers. This short visit took 350 police officers and the PSB's planning to protect the President.
