CHANG GUNG HOSPITAL ISSUES APOLOGY, MAKES PEACE WITH DOCTORS|長庚急診離職潮院方致歉 主委.院長換人

Chang Gung Memorial Hospital responds to its staffing crisis. The flood of ER doctors quitting started last week, allegedly over management problems and some say because of an internal power struggle going on at the hospital. The Hospital called a conference yesterday, cleared some rumors, apologized to the public, and announced top-level personnel change. It is also revoking all punishment previously meted out to the ER staff, and on top of that, working to retain those who have tendered their resignation. Bowing deeply, the hospital authorities apologized to the public for recent incidents in which emergency staff resigned en masse. Chang Gung's policy committee Chair Lee Shi-tseng and hospital president Tseng Ming-hui have asked to resign and this has been approved by the hospital's board of directors. The hospital announced that it was withdrawing disciplinary action against all emergency staff. The hospital steadfastly denied that it was engaged in any sort of internal power struggle. ==SU HUI-CHENG Special Assis. Chang Gung Hospital Admin Center== I want to say that speculation that this matter is a personnel struggle groundless. We have a complete personnel system and it is impossible that one person or a few people could manipulate the system. The hospital said after three days of deep discussion and talking with each of the specialist doctors that worked in emergency and reviewing improvements for each department, it understood the doctors' point of view. It had revoked the disciplinary action against emergency staff and the emergency department head Chen Ri-Chang and Chiu Teh-fa. In the future, any disciplinary action imposed by the personnel department would be monitored by a lawyer. Currently there are 30 doctors who have resigned. ==HUANG JI-REN Emergency Dept. Dir. Some staff may still chose to resign and we will try to find a way to reassure them to come back to work. Currently we have a sufficient number of staff in the emergency department so that it can operate strongly. The hospital pushed back strongly on speculation that this was due to some kind of internal power struggle and that the hospital tried to save money by cutting emergency personnel. The hospital said it's operating priority was patient welfare and it had never cut staff or services due to financial loss. The new hospital president will be appointed by Chair Chih Chi-lung and honorary chair, Cherng Wen-jun, and the committee.
