VISITORS' NUMBERS TO RESERVOIRS DECLINE BUT SHIMEN HAS MORE|十大觀光水庫陸客銳減 石門水庫逆勢成長

Across Taiwan, Less people are visiting reservoirs lately. The ten most popular reservoirs in Taiwan have seen a decline of number in visitors. The number for the first time dipped below 10 million last year, and Sun Moon Lake, in particular, was hit by a 30% drop. But up north in Taoyuan, Shimen reservoir seems to defy the down trend and one can't help but wonder why. Here's our report. More and more tourists came to Shinmen Dam during weekends. Last year the dam had 1.53 million visitors, a 30% more than five years ago. ==TOURIST== Riding bike from Sanxia to Shihmen Dam, the dam has pleasant scenery, we can exercise for health and pleasure. The scenery here is very beautiful, riding bicycle is very nice during weekends. ==TOURIST== Here has mountain and water, particularly the air is very fresh. This place changes with seasons. People dislike heat waves in summer, right? But here has many trees. Look, you can find many spots with shades. Under the influence of decreasing Chinese tourists, ten dams in Taiwan had their lowest record of visitors, less than 10 million. The Sun Moon Lake had less 1.7 million visitors comparing with the number five years ago, a 30% loss. Mainly it was affected by the decreasing number of Chinese tourists. Shimen Dam serves two important functions of water supply and tourism. Taoyuan City Government has obtained NT$379 million to strengthen nearby facilities. After a year and half, tourists can enjoy Shimen Dam by riding electric motorbikes or bicycles, aiming to reduce environmental pollution.
