RAIN DESTROYS HOUSES, WASHES AWAY ROADS|豪雨重創高雄桃源 房屋沖毀.路基掏空

Kaohsiung City's mountainous Taoyuan District received almost 1,500 millimeters of rain over the past three days, resulting in 10 destroyed houses in the Qinhe neighborhood and 1 in Fuxing neighborhood. A 500-meter stretch of road also collapsed along the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Emergency repairs have begun on the morning of the 5th, and the road has been stabilized using wavebreakers. Residents rushed to express their wish to a visiting Premier Lin Chuan, calling on the government to better listen to local voices and needs, when it comes to flood management. The rear half of this three-story building has been completely washed away by the flooding Laonong river. Fortunately, the residents had evacuated and there were no casualties. Ms. Tsai, who has owned a restaurant and BB for nine years along Highway 20, lost her rented property and all of her belongings in the flood. ==MS. The latest drone footage shows that the river has become less swollen, but 500 meters of road have collapsed along the mountainside. Eight houses by the river were swept away, and two remain unsafe. The Directorate-General of Highways and the Seventh River Management Office have begun emergency repairs. One house was also swept away in nearby Fuxing. ==MR. Lin said that the disaster underlined the necessity of the Forward-Looking Infrastructure program. He said that the program's aquatic environment development area is a response to the impact of climate change, and that budgets for the program will be reviewed every two years.
