The five-day Han Kuang military exercises have begun. The first day of the exercises simulates preserving combat capabilities during an enemy attack, such as dispatching warplanes in western Taiwan to the east. The Army's Apache attack helicopters also performed hot refueling and arming exercises at civilian sites. Mirage 2000 war planes from the Hsinchu Airbase prepare for an emergency evacuation to Hualien's Chiashan Base to preserve combat capabilities. After a final check by ground crew, preparations for takeoff begin. The first day of the Han Kuang military exercises focused on a live fire drill simulating the evacuation of warplanes from western to eastern Taiwan in the face of an enemy attack. ==CHEN CHUNG-CHI Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson== Our Mirage 2000 also participated in this evacuation mission in the preservation of capabilities phase. The rigorous training of our officers and soldiers were on display for the country. The Apache attack helicopters under the Army's Aviation and Special Forces Command also performed hot refueling and arming exercises in Hsinchu before taking off again to engage with the enemy. Notably, the resupplying point was not in a military base but in a civilian factory. ==CHEN CHUNG-CHI Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson== It could even take place in a car repair shop. We could also deploy the capabilities in the civilian world so that the military and civilians can share these resources. This will help us protect our country and our land. The OH-58D scout helicopter then landed for a hot refueling of its own. This year's Han Kuang exercises will culminate in an anti-amphibious landing exercise in Penghu on May 25, which President Tsai Ing-wen is expected to observe in person. Translated by JOHN CHEN
