CHINESE FISHING VESSEL FORCIBLY BOARDED AFTER IGNORING WARNINGS|大陸漁船拒受檢 我海巡隊發射震撼彈

On May 5 at 5:20 am, the Coastguard Administration's Penghu patrol found a Chinese fishing vessel west of Huayu花嶼 islet and within 20 kilometers of it. The CGA suspected that it was fishing illegally in Taiwan waters and broadcast a warning. The boat refused to stop for an inspection and so the Coastguard fired. It was then allowed onto the boat. During this exchange, two of the crew were injured. The Coastguard broadcast a warning again and asked the Chinese vessel, the Aonanao, to stop for an inspection. It was illegally fishing in waters off Penghu. After broadcasting the warning and request ten times, the fishing vessel still refused inspection. ==CHEN YUNG-FENG Penghu Coastguard Administration spokesperson== It refused to be inspected and kept zig-zagging. The Chinese crew stood on the side of the ship, like a wall to prevent the team from making an inspection. The team had no choice but to fire low calibre weapons, five times to approach and inspect. The Coastguard fired flashbang grenades before they were finally allowed on board for an inspection. There were seven crew. Two were injured by the ordinance, on the thigh and ankle respectively. They were taken back to hospital in Taiwan. ==INJURED CREW MEMBER== Didn't you know? that you shouldn't be there? We didn't know. We have to make a living. Currently it is the mandatory rest season for fishing in Chinese waters, including the Yellow Sea, the East Sea and the South China sea and all fishing is strictly prohibited. The Coastguard units are therefore strengthening seizure of any Chinese vessels in Taiwan waters. In accordance with the cross-strait legislation any Chinese vessels caught fishing over the boundaries will be severely punished. Patrols will continue to police Taiwan's waters during this period.
