KAOHSIUNG FRUITS AND VEGETABLES MARKET CONTROVERSY CONTINUES|高雄果菜市場拆遷爭議 自救會公布調查

The Kaohsiung Fruits and Vegetables Market controversy continues even after its relocation was completed. Over half of the stall owners opposed the government's idea to build a road inside the market, saying the new project is actually a concern to them because it could make deliveries more inconvenient and reduce their efficiency. Some stall owners call on the city government to reconsider its decision or they may take it to court. Members of Kaohsiung Fruits and Vegetables Market Residents Self-help Association were protesting and cutting puppet Mayor Chen-chu's head off by a guillotine. They harshly criticized the city government is undergoing land acquisition with a profiteer purpose. The association conducted a survey to 243 stall owners, 90% of merchants do not support city government's project. ==ASSISTANT Kaohsiung Fruits and Vegetables Market Res. Kaohsiung City Government was to demolish the old market, however after completing land acquisition, the site is to be converted to parking lot and flood detention basin. The self-help association found, over half of stall owners do not agree with either the old plan or new design. They are accusing Kaohsiung City Government for committing illegal land acquisition and fraud. Stall owners are going to file legal action against Kaohsiung City Government. ==KE SHAO-CHEN Lawyer== The building site is fruits and vegetables market. If the site is to become a parking lot or flood detention basin, then the city government must abolish land acquisition and re-process the acquisition procedures. ==CHENG CHIN-FU Deputy Dir.-general, Kaohsiung Agriculture Bureau== We negotiated with staff from the Fruits and Vegetables Company and stalls, we explained accordingly to their demands. In the future, we may comply with their demands and propose for an upgrading alternative. The city government emphasized, the land is under the same construction project, design alteration does not require re-acquisition. City officials had communicated with members in the market for every aspect. The self-help association is to call upon all stall owners to stop the construction before their doubts are cleared.
