In Pingtung's Fangliao Township, a large number of dead perch were discovered along a 3 kilometer stretch of the shoreline. According to Pingtung County government, the dead fish were discharged by a private fish farm. The fish farm will be given a fine of NT$ 3 million.
Over 10,000 dead perch were discovered along a 3 kilometer stretch of the shoreline in Pingtung's Fangliao Township. Local residents were shocked, as they have never seen anything like this in three decades. This is the only place in Fangliao where people can play on the beach. At the weekend, many parents bring their children here to enjoy their days off. Now, rotten odors drift across the beach, and more and more dead fish are being washed away into the sea. Local residents are worried that the dead fish may cause pollution.

Some dead fish have a prolapsed intestine. The bulging eyes and swollen belly suggest poisoning. If the fish were poisoned, then the sea and the land are both contaminated.
Since the dead fish were all of the same species, it is probable that they are farm-raised. Pingtung County government carried out a joint investigation with the Coast Guard Administration and found that the dead fish were discharged along with wastewater from a private fish farm. The 7th River Management Office and the CGA will cooperate to remove the dead fish within two days. Meanwhile, the county government will ask the fish farm for a cleaning fee to cover the expense.

(Has it been confirmed that the dead fish were discharged by the suspected fish farm?) We are now contacting the owner of the fish farm to find out who made the decision to discharge the dead fish. Pingtung's Environmental Protection Bureau made phone calls to the suspected fish farm in the evening of Apr. 9. However, no one answered the phone. The EPB therefore assumed that the fish farm deliberately discharged the dead fish. Fines for violating of the Water Pollution Control Law can be up to NT$ 3 million, starting from NT$30,000. If the fish farm refuses to deal with the problem, it will face stiffer penalties in violation of the Marine Pollution Control Act, resulting in a fine over NT$1 million or even a jail sentence.

鱸魚眼睛凸出、肚子膨脹，出現在屏東枋寮這處海域。居民嚇了一跳，因為死魚沿著沙灘綿延3公里，數量超過1萬尾。民眾說，他們在當地生活30幾年，從沒見過這景象，尤其這海域是枋寮唯一戲水的地方，只要假日就有家長帶著孩子前來，如今海灘飄來腐臭味，死魚也被海水不斷捲入海底，讓他們看了很心痛。更怕汙染環境。
