We were just talking about "civil disobedience" yesterday after the major acitivitists of Sunflower movement were found not guilty and today, a major riot broke out in Taiwan's only diplomatic ally in South America- Paraguay. Protesters stormed and set fire to the Congress on Friday after the Senate secretly voted for a constitutional amendment that would allow presidents to run for re-election. Police vehicles also were targeted. At least one protester is dead in the conflict. In Paraguay's capital Asuncion, the parliament building caught on fire as angry protesters axed into the building and set fire. Demonstrators were frustrated as the Senate secretly cancelled Constitutional amendment of limiting presidential tenure. Paraguay is Taiwan's only diplomatic nation in South America. This parliament building was donated by Taiwan with a budget of NT$630 million. Riot control police used water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protestors. ==PROTESTER== We are tired of corruptions, we are tired of not following the laws, we are tired of everything. Paraguayans are no longer silent. Paraguayan presidential tenure is five years. In order to avoid dictatorship from happening again, the country has forbidden president from running for re-election since 1992. But a group of senators voted in closed office, 25 out of 45 senators voted for the measure that would allow President Horacio Cartes to run for re-election. Opponents criticized that was an illegal proposal and it was intended to lead the nation to dictatorship; they are to take this case all the way to the Supreme Court. Before the vote took place, protesters had scuffles and clashes with police. ==PROTESTER== The people of Paraguay can fight against these rubber bullets. Lawmakers have installed a dictator in this country. The bullets against Paraguayans will soon be metal." This Constitutional amendment proposal is to send to the lower House by April 1. The House Speaker emphasized there will not be any decision making, he urges the public to be calm.
