RESCUE WORKER WASHED AWAY BY FLOODING RIVER IN MISSION|搜救失蹤消防員 救難隊員遭溪水沖走罹難

First story today, yesterday was the fifth day of a rescue mission to retrieve a firefighter, who went missing during the 228 holiday while climbing a mountain in Hualien. However, a rescue worker, who was leaving the mountain after a 4-day shift, was washed away by a flooding river while he was trying to cross it. He died after being sent to the hospital. After the helicopter made a landing, injured rescue worker Sun Hung-hsin was carried to the hospital at once. However, Sun died after being sent to the hospital. On Mar.1, a mountain climber, who is in fact a firefighter from Taipei City, was reported missing in Hualien's Nan Erh Tzu mountain. Therefore, a rescue operation was carried out to search for the missing firefighter. On March 8, while Sun was leaving the mountain after a 4-day shift, he was washed away by a flooding river while trying to go across it. ==WU TAI-CHUN Deputy Director, Hualien County Fire Department== The river was turbulent. The helicopter was on the other side of the river. Rescue workers crossed the river until it retreated. Rescue operation entered the 5th day yesterday, but little progress was made due to consecutive torrential rains. ==MS.CHAN rescue worker== The weather was really bad. Rivers and streams were flooding. ==MR. FAN rescue worker== There were three interception points in the river. (Was he still alive when you saw him?) Yes, he was trying to catch the rescue rope which we threw to him. Hualien County Fire Department said that four rescue workers were injured, and one died because of the rescue operation. However, since searching and rescuing the missing is a firefighter's duty, it said that the rescue operation will continue.
