WARMER JAPAN-TAIWAN TIES REFLECTED IN NEW OFFICE NAMES|"台灣日本關係協會" 亞東協會將改名

發布時間: 更新時間:
Reflecting warming relations between Taiwan and Japan, Japan previously changed the name of its representative office in Taiwan to include the word Taiwan, and now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is looking into changing its Association of East Asian Relations, which handles Taiwan's relations with Japan, to the Association of Taiwan Japan Relations. The adding of Taiwan and Japan to the name of the association is expected to take place by the end of this month. According to Minister of Foreign Affairs David Lee, the proposal of the name change has been submitted to the Executive Yuan and is now awaiting approval from Premier Lin Chuan. If all things go well, the name change will likely materialize by the end of this month the soonest. Responding to questions whether Taiwan's representative office in Japan, currently called Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, will be similarly renamed, Lee said negotiations with Japan are under way to replace the word Taipei with Taiwan.
