7 UNIVERSITIES SIGN AGREEMENTS WITH ONE CHINA CLAUSES|7大學簽陸生"一中承諾書" 國立清大在列

At least 7 universities have signed "illegal" agreements with Chinese academic institutions when taking on mainland exchange students. The agreement guarantees that class subjects will not involve "sensitive political issues" such as Taiwanese independence. Premier Lin Chuan said politics should not interfere with education and has asked the education ministry to look into this matter. After reports of Shih Hsin University's agreement with Chinese universities to attract students to Taiwan. National Tsing Hua University has also been found to have signed similar agreements. Seven universities have been found to have signed such agreements. The Ministry of Education will look into the other universities within two weeks. The Mainland Affairs Council stated that such request for an agreement is unnecessary and that schools found to have violated Article 33-3 of Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area will be fined up to NT$500,000.
