POLICE SEARCH FOR TWO WOMEN MISSING IN SOUTH KOREA|2台女赴韓打工傳失蹤 兩國警方協尋

發布時間: 更新時間:
Two Taiwanese women have reportedly been missing in South Korea since mid-February. One of the woman, surnamed Chiang, arrived in South Korea on Feb. 14 and has not been in contact with her mother since then. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had passed on the information to Korean police, but so far they have received no further information. On March 3, a South Korea chat room posted a notice looking for two missing Taiwan women. It said that a woman surnamed Jiang and her friend went to Korea to work before February. After they reached Korea, one relative received a message to say that they had arrived safely. However, messages sent from Taiwan after that were all unread and unanswered. One woman's mother is worried that her daughter is being coerced and at the end of February asked Taoyuan police for help. ==MRS. CHIANG== I quickly Lined her, asking where she was, she said she was in Korea, and I asked if she was ok there and she said it was ok. Then after 1:13 pm there has been no news at all, that last time was Feb. 14. Police reported that after Ms. Jiang stopped studying she started working and said to her mother that her company wanted to send her to Korea to work for three months and another female friend would go with her. They would allegedly be paid 10,000 Korean won for living expenses. Before she went, her mother gave her NT$1,000. The safety of Taiwanese traveling abroad thus became an unexpected topic of questioning in a legislative interpellation session. ==KMT legislator HSU CHIH-JUNG== Is our government being proactive in searching for our two missing female compatriots? ==HOU CHING-SHAN Dep, MOFA Minister== After they were out of touch for ten days, a relative reported to Taoyuan police and the police notified the MOFA. Only Ms. Jiang's mother made the police report. The other woman is surnamed Hsu and her family have not contacted anyone so we don't know what she was studying. Currently, the ROC representative office in Korea has given the missing notice that Ms. Jiang's mother posted to the Korean police and is in keeping close contact with them on the state of the search. However, the police noted that Mrs. Jiang was unable to give much information, and the family of the woman who Ms. Jiang was traveling with has not yet made contact with the police.
