TSAI PROMISES CONTINUED PURSUIT OF 228 TRUTH|紀念228七十週年 蔡:轉型正義設專責機構

At a ceremony hosted by the Memorial Foundation of 228, President Tsai Ing-wen told the family members of those killed or forced to felle due to the incident, that reconciliation must be built upon the truth and that Taiwan needed to revisit its past to ensure its future, promising new measures to find those responsible for the massacre. This means our efforts to pursue the truth will not stop. Reconciliation has to be sought based on the truth. Tomorrow, the National Archives Administration will launch a plan for compilation of political archives. President Tsai hoped legislation to promote transitional justice will be prioritized during the current legislative session and that a task force will be tasked with handling transitional justice. As a relative of the victim of the 228 Incident, Taipei Mayor, Ko Wen-je, is still overwhelmed with grief. ==KO WEN-JE Taipei City Mayor== At least I didn't cry. (Do you get emotional?) President Tsai handed out "reputation-rehabilitation certificates" to the families of the victims toward the end of the ceremony. A large number of police were dispatched to secure order. However, many groups rallied outside the venue and protested. Free Taiwan Party Chairman Tsay Ting-kuei rushed to the scene, only to find President Tsai had already left. In the morning, President Tsai attended the memorial service with former DPP chairman Lin I-hsiung at Gikong Presbyterian Church. The protestors criticized the government for taking advantage of the 228 Incident.
