FLUCTUATING TEMPERATURES EASILY LEAD TO FATALITY |明降雨趨緩週三又變天 溫度變化大猝死頻傳

Northern and Central Taiwan faced a cold and wet weather during the first two days of the 228 holidays. It is estimated that 68 people has died from the cold-related causes across Taiwan. Seniors should be aware of staying warm, so as to avoid cardiovascular diseases and stokes. The Central Weather Bureau said that there will be less rain today, and the temperature may rise tomorrow. However, the weather will turn cold again on March 1. at night because of a continental cold air mass. Temperatures are expected to drop to 12°C in northern and central Taiwan. As a wet weather system from southern China moves eastward, there will be less rain on Feb.27. The temperature will rise about 4°C to 5°C in the morning of Feb.28. However, on March 1, temperatures are expected to drop to 12°C in northern Taiwan, and 15°C in other areas at night. There weather will be cold at night. The Central Weather Bureau said that the weather will be changeable for rest of the week. The minimum temperature will be around 12°C to 13°C at night and in early morning. People are reminded to stay warm, because fluctuating temperatures may trigger cardiovascular diseases and strokes. According to New Taipei City government's fire department, the recent cold weather has caused six deaths of people age 70 or older. Temperature changes makes their blood pressure become uncontrollable. Under this kind of situation, these patients are at a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases and stokes. Besides taking medicine regularly, doctors suggested that patients with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar should take their pulse every day. When going outdoors, it is advised to wear hats, scarfs and masks to avoid drastic changes in blood pressure. If one shows symptoms of a stroke, such as slurred speech and facial paralysis, one should go to the hospital as soon as possible.
