On February 11, a car carrying 4 Taiwanese tourists crashed in southern Japan, killing one in the front passenger seat and injuring three others. 27-year-old Hsu Tzi-hui 徐子惠 sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead after being sent to the hospital. Taiwan's representative office in Fukuoka has gotten in touch with those who survived the crash and provided them with assistance. They also accompanied Hsu's family in the cremation process. The local authorities have launched an investigation into the case. On February 11, a rental car driven by a Taiwanese driver hit the roadside concrete barrier as it took a turn. Hsu Tzi-hui, who was sitting at the front passenger seat, had a serious head injury and was declared dead at the hospital. The two men on the back seats suffered injuries to their shoulder and waist. The Japanese police pressed charges of death caused by negligence against the 25-year-old driver, Yang, who also had a minor injury. ==REPORTER Kumamoto TV== The four tourists were heading towards Kagoshima. The police is now investigating into the cause for the accident. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reached the families affected by the accident and helped them get to Japan immediately. Taiwan's representative office in Fukuoka accompanied Hsu's family for the cremation and provided assistance to the three injured Taiwanese. The office is also working with the Japanese police in the investigation into the accident. A Taiwanese tour operator for Japanese tours stated that some roads in Kyushu were still icy because of the snow the other day. Drivers should be careful when driving in these areas. ==HUANG CHIA-HUNG Tour Operator == The roads in Japan are not as wide as in Taiwan. The width of two car lanes in Taiwan can accommodate 3 to 4 cars. In Japan, the number is two. Taiwanese drivers tend to have difficulties transitioning into driving in a left-driving country such as Japan. Japanese car rental companies usually have low coverage insurance policies. The tour operator suggests that Taiwanese tourists take out travel insurance policies if they decide to drive in Japan.
