SUSPECT IN ISTANBUL NEW YEAR'S EVE ATTACK CAPTURED|土耳其跨年夜恐攻 警逮捕烏茲別克籍嫌犯

First in this morning's international news, Turkish security forces have captured Abdulkadir Masharipov, a suspect in the Istanbul terrorist attack on New Year's Eve. A national of Uzbekistan, Masharipov was arrested in a raid in the late night of the 16th local time. Security forces escort the two men and three women they have arrested into police cars. The Turkish police say that one of the two men is Abdulkadir Masharipov, an Uzbek national who is a suspect in the terrorist attack on New Year's Eve in Istanbul. The police say that Masharipov and his wife and children arrived in Turkey in 2016. He assumed the name of Ebu Muhammed Horasani and stayed in a friend's house in Istanbul starting December 15th last year. CCTV footage from the scene of the attack showed a man alleged to be Masharipov entering the nightclub full of foreign tourists with a gun and opening fire, causing chaos at the scene. The attack killed at least 39. Worried that the suspect would flee to territory controlled by the Islamic State, the police conducted a series of raids that culminated in Masharipov's arrest in a friend's house on the 16th. The Turkish government may be breathing a sigh of relief, but a BBC report points out that seven terrorist attacks associated with the Islamic State have occurred in Turkey over the past year and a half, killing at least 260. The Turkish government must be on guard for further attacks from the terrorists in its borders.
