NCSA DIRECTOR MEETS VICE PRESIDENT ON PENSION REFORM|李來希入府談年金 外界質疑密室協商

On Jan 11, National Civil Servant Association Director Lee Lai-hsi posted a picture of him meeting with Vice President Chen Chien-jen on Facebook, saying that he was invited to a meeting on pension reform by the Presidential Office. However, some speculated the meeting was a negotiation under the table. On Jan. 13, Chen attended a joint meeting of higher education presidents. He said that although he feels sorry for public university professors who will be affected by the pension reform, the reform must continue. Conflicts were heard at public hearings on pension reform as controversies over the reform rage on. On Jan. 13, Vice President Chen Chien-Jen, who is also the convener of the pension reform committee, said he hopes that everyone can sit down and talk about the issue peacefully during a joint meeting of college and university presidents. He also said that he feels sorry for public university professors who will be affected by the reform. ==CHEN CHIEN-JEN, Vice President== In the still depths of night, it pains me to think that may of my friends, who are university professors, will be affected by the pension reform. However, he criticized pension reform executive director Lin Wan-I for his acting arbitrarily. ==LI LAI-HSI, National Civil Servant Association Director== I think the meeting is a more constructive way to discuss about the problems. If we continue to have meetings held by Lin Wan-I, talking about the issue in an unconstrained style, then we will achieve nothing. We have talked about the issue over half a year, and what we got was a worsened situation. Representatives of business groups and retired civil servants attended the meeting as well. Since the meeting was non-transparent, Social Democratic Party said that it is hard for people to have faith in the pension reform. The National Federation of Teachers Unions thus called on the government to make the meeting public. ==CHANG HSU-CHENG NFTU Director== I cannot understand that what such a meeting as this was for. I really hope that the vice president, or the President Office, can make the content of the meeting public. Tell us whether it will have a negative effect on the pension reform. The Presidential Office said that the meeting was held because Chen wanted to directly receive concrete advice on pension reform. The goal of the meeting was to reach a consensus, making the reform process smooth.
