DPP PROPOSES AD HOC SESSION UP TO LUNAR NEW YEAR| 總預算案未過 民進黨團今擬提案開臨時會

It is the end of the current legislative session. The Democratic Progressive Party will make a proposal today to hold an ad-hoc session. It criticized the Kuomintang for proposing numerous bills at the end of the session and boycotting proceedings. It wants to pass legislation pertinent to the economy and rights such as the Electricity Act, the Long Term Care Act and the Stock Market Transaction tax. The KMT does not oppose an ad hoc session but said it will carefully scrutinize proposed legislation. At the end of last year, the Legislative Yuan reviewed the 2016 central government budget but it was not passed. The Kuomintang boycotted over 1,000 budgets. As the central budget has still not been passed, the DPP proposed an ad hoc session from Jan. 5 to 26, to pass it. ==LUO CHIH-CHENG DPP legislator== If the KMT seriously wants to review budgets then they can propose to review the important cases and explain clearly to the public why they want to cut certain budgets, rather than just stalling the whole budget at every juncture and delaying it, which doesn't help anyone. Although the DPP hopes the budgets will pass swiftly and believes that the KMT's attitude is key, the KMT does not actually oppose an ad hoc session, but does say it will bring due diligence to bear and not just pass a flood of legislation. ==TSENG MING-TSONG KMT legislator== As a legislator you represent the people, so it doesn't matter if we work longer, as long as we pass legislation which is necessary and important, there is no problem. The DPP believes that the Electricity Act, the Long Term Care Act and the stock market transaction tax legislation are important to the economy and should be passed swiftly. The KMT's Tseng reiterated that the KMT caucus would seriously review all the legislation even if it meant the ad hoc session lasted right up to the Lunar New Year.
