18 PERCENT PREFERENTIAL INTEREST RATE TO GO IN 6 YEARS|18趴"6年內走入歷史 軍公教團體反彈

National pension reform is in it's last stages.The National Pension Reform Committee announced yesterday that it will be gradually implemented year by year, and within six years at the latest, the preferential 18 percent interest rate will be abolished. The military, civil servants and public school teachers excoriated the government for not expanding pensions in general, but just cutting their pensions. They will take their protest to the streets. After six months' discussion the National Pension Reform Committee decided to change the preferential 18 percent interest rate which the military, civil servants and public school teachers get on their pensions. The basic rate will be set at NT$20 to 30,000 and gradually in steps this will change so that within 6 years the preferential 18 percent rate on savings will be abolished. Federation of Education Unions== if this version is based on lowest basic wage or lowest income household, so, now, this concept is for anyone with low income in the population, so if now national employees, the military, civil servants and public school teachers, especially those who have retired are compared to that level of income to draw their pensions, then in the future, Taiwan will be a poor society. The 18 percent creates a huge pressure on the government as each year it has the burden of paying out NT$80 billion. Lee emphasized that the government is handling military pensions separately which was very divisive. He said that those affected by national pension reform will take to the streets to protest at the public hearing in Taipei at the end of January.
