MND TO CRACK DOWN DRONES ENTERING AIRPORTS|空拍機闖機場.管制區 軍方將當場擊落

The popularity of drones in recent years has not come without headaches for flight safety authorities. Since July last year, 8 illegal drone activities within airport perimeters have been reported, and one of them even resulted in the closure of the Taichung Airport. Starting from January 10th next year, the government will step up law enforcement efforts to combat the problem. If necessary, enhanced measures will include shooting down rogue drones. From 2015, two incidents occurred where drones entered the restricted area in Taipei Songshan Airport and crashed into the Taipei 101 skyscraper. Other incidents include drones flying over the civil aircraft which was landing at the Taoyuan International Airport as well as disturbing the flight and causing closure of the Taichung Airport. The Ministry of National Defense suspected the drones come from Chinese tourists. Starting from Jan. 10 next year, it will actively crack down and does not rule out shooting down the drones. ==CHUNG SHU-MING, MND Joint Operation Division Director== We will use jammers to force the drone to land on the ground because it does pose a threat to the safety of the flights. If there is an immediate danger, we will use anti-air weapons to shoot it down. The MND will crack down on drones and use its own drones to hunt down those which trespass the airports and military bases or injure people. National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology will dispatch the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Defense System to hunt down the trespassing drones and make profits out of the anti-drone movement. ==CHENG YI-CHENG, NCSIST Materials and Electro-Optics Director== The process includes detection and monitoring of radar and hunting of the drone. If the drone carries explosives, we need to take care of them. This will cost tens of millions. So, the different needs will determine the purchasing of equipment of the anti-drone system.
