DPP PUSHES TO PASS THIRD READING OF AMENDMENTS TO LABOR ACT|勞基法修法今立院再戰 綠將拚三讀闖關

On Dec. 6, the DPP will fight to pass the third reading of amendments to the Labor Standards Act. Last week, there were clashes between the labor activists and the police outside the legislative Yuan. DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming was even attacked by protesters. Starting from today, the police will question 21 individuals who threw smoke grenades and rammed a vehicle past an area cordoned off by police. On Dec. 2, labor activists besiege and attack DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming to protest over the government's plan to cut seven national holidays. During the chaos, the police arrested the man who threw water at Ker. Outside the Legislative Yuan, protesters attempted to ram a vehicle past an area cordoned off by police. They even used smoke grenades at the protest scene. The police have identified 21 individuals who were connected to the violence. Starting from Dec. 6, they will be summoned for questioning. The "one fixed day off, one flexible rest day off" policy will also again be reviewed on the same day. ==YU YUNG-LIEN, police== The protesters were consisted of labor group members and members of the public. Based on what we know, no gang members were included. ==LU CHI-HUNG, Labor Activist== The incident happened on Friday (Dec. 2). Next week, the police will summon people for questioning while we hold another protest. I think they are somehow trying to play us down. Labor groups have protested over the issue for about 5 months. They suspected that the police questioning was meant to stop them from protesting at the Legislative Yuan. ==KER CHIEN-MING, DPP caucus whip== DPP has the best supporting measures for workers. We will take country competitiveness into consideration. I hope that tomorrow (Dec.6), no one will take over the rostrum and boycott the policy. I hope everything can move forward smoothly. While labor groups said they will hold massive protests, KMT legislators said they will continue to boycott the proposed policy.
