TSAI-TRUMP CALL RAISES US-CHINA, CHINA-TAIWAN TENSIONS|蔡總統.川普熱線 外媒:恐挑起美中緊張

President Tsai Ing-wen's phone call to US President-elect Trump has caused international concern. International media have reported the move as a Trump provocation of US-China tension. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticised Taiwan as engaging in petty manouevers. Taiwan analysts believe that it is good to have a start on US-Taiwan dialogue, but the price to pay may be followed up by military, economic and trade actions from China against Taiwan. President Tsai Ing-wen's call to President-elect Trump and his public tweet about it has been analysed in international media as a blunder which will exacerbate tensions in US-China relations. ==REPORTER ABC News== This is a stunning development, somthing that has not happened in nearly 40 years. Right now the US has no diplomatic relationship with Taiwan, treating it as part of China, but tonight we learnt from the President-elect's team that Donald Trump and the President of Taiwan have discussed close economic, political and security ties. China is not going to take this well. During his campaign, Trump repeatedly criticized China's economic and trade policies and called China a currency manipulator. However, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi laid the blame on Taiwan saying it was a petty manouever which will not change the long-standing one China policy adhered to by the US. Former ROC representative to the US, Shen Lu-hsun still said it was a good start to development of relations between Taiwan and the new US administration. ==SHEN LU-HSUN former ROC representative to the US== Why interfere with my congratulatory phone calls? This is a bit too much. We have good bilateral relations with the United States, its normal to have a call between heads of state, why is this a petty manouever? Analysts say that currently Henry Kissinger, a long-time Republican supporter of China is on a visit there, originally thought to be reassuring China about Trump after his anti-China campaign rhetoric. The phone call may have thrown a spanner in the works and raised tension and uncertainties again. ==LAI YUEH-CHIEN Asst. Prof. Shih Chien University School of Liberal Education== The trust between the US and China is already weak and even with Kissinger who is a solid pillar of support for China, over there, his role has been weakened by this. So the US-China relationship is off to a bad start, if this is bad then the cross strait relationship for Taiwan will also be poor.
