TSAI'S APPROVAL RATING DROPS FURTHER, CABINET WEAK|

President Tsai Ing wen's approval rating has dropped from 69.9 percent in May to 41.4 percent yesterday, even below her disapproval rating. Scholars believe, concerning issues such as "one fixed day off and one flexible rest day" and "import of foods from radiation-contaminated areas from Japan", the opponents outnumber the proponents, which suggests the policy-making is in the opposite direction of the public sentiment. President Tsai attended the Presidential Innovation Award Forum, hoping to drive the economic development by innovation. Her approval rating has dropped for the past six months. The recent poll on President Tsai's performance shows 41.4% are satisfied while 42.6% unsatisfied. This is a crisis of leadership. Over 50% of people think the Cabinet, dubbed an incompetent Cabinet, fails to solve problems. Opponents outnumber proponents on issues like "one fixed day off, one flexible rest day" and import of foods from radiation-contaminated areas from Japan. This indicates the government stands in the opposite direction of the public sentiment. ==SHIH CHENG-FENG Professor, Nat. Dong Hwa University== She thinks her administration is good at communicating with the public. But why does everyone oppose it? Even her proponents oppose it. I think the biggest problem lies in the way she handles the country, which is sentimental management. It works for the first time, but for the second or even the third time, it will stop working magic. It won't make people shed tears. People are not just opposed to the policy. The disapproval rating rises to 48% concerning the maintenance of the status quo of the cross-strait policy, which is what the Tsai administration has always been proud of. And the approval rating drops to 41%. As high as 56% are unsatisfied with her economic performance, which gives the administration a serious warning. There is a narrow margin between proponents and opponents on same-sex marriage, both of which do not exceed half. The demarcation point is at age 40. For people under 40, as high as 64% approve of it. Over half of people who are over 40 oppose it. Cross analysis further indicates should the controversy not be dealt with properly, it would elicit more serious problems than the controversy between unification and independence 20 years ago. ==YOU YING-LUNG Chair,Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation== The impact on the society of Taiwan is beyond imagination. That's why I said Taiwan is probably not ready. Since President Tsi Ing-wen took office, her approval rating has been dropping for the six months. The civic groups once stood together with Tsai Ing-wen before the election, but now they strongly criticize her for most of the U-turn policies. How to restore the public's confidence poses a challenge to the Tsai administration. TRANSLATED BY:BRYANT CHANG
