CHINESE FIGHTER PLANES RAMP UP WESTERN PACIFIC EXERCISES|阻美日軍援? 中國軍機西太平洋演訓受矚

Six Chinese military aircrafts flew to the Western Pacific, causing consternation from other Asian countries. Experts analyzed that its purpose is to understand the Western Pacific as a battlefield, and the drills are to attack the eastern part of Taiwan, and block reinforcements from the United States' and Japan's defense. Japan's Ministry of Defense said that six Chinese military aircraft arrived on Nov. 25 to the Western Pacific for training.These Chinese military aircraft, include two SU-30 fighters, two H-6 bombers, a TU-154 reconnaissance aircraft and a transport 8 reconnaissance aircraft. Japan's Self-Defense Forces scrambled for emergency take-off and surveillance. The ROC's Ministry of National Defense expressed it was fully cognizant of the Chinese military maneuvers. ==CHEN CHUNG-CHI ROC National Defense Spokesperson== The National Defense has effective control and understanding over the drills undertaken by the PLA. We will abide by principles as decided fit for battle readiness in dealing with emergencies. We will not provoke unwanted activity nor escalate the situation. We will continue to monitor waters and airspace surrounding Taiwan to ensure national security. The Chinese military said that these military aircraft entered the Western Pacific through the Bashi Straits on Nov. 25 for offshore training. They then left by the Miyako Strait. Analysts say Chinese fighter planes are going to the West Pacific for training increasingly frequently. The purpose is to become familiar with the Western Pacific battlefield, and carry out drills on east Taiwan to attack and block US-Japan reinforcements. ==CHIEH CHUNG, Asst. Researcher, Nat. Policy Research Foundation== The PLA is indeed capable of launching precision guided munition on our east coast infrastructure, but the drills are also a message for the U.S and Japan that the PLA will be capable of counterattack in the West Pacific if they come to rescue. On Nov. 28 another round of Sino-Japanese security dialogue will be held in Beijing. Then on Dec. 19 and 20 in Tokyo, Japan, China and South Korea will hold a summit. In the future, the United States may adopt a more conservative foreign policy. Analysts say China intends to use military exercises in the East Asian region at this juncture to remind neighboring countries with a strong message, that they should maintain a cooperative relationship with her, rather than an antagonistic one.
