Qi Zhi Vocational Training Center provides training opportunities for people with either intellectual, physical or both disabilities a chance of employment. The bread factory offers them a chance to do everything independently and establish self-value through baking. Most of the bread from the factory, goes to the cafe near by, where the disabled can have the chance to interact with customers directly, eventually enhance their competitiveness in society and ultimately promote their chance of open employment.
Forming the dough into a round shape and gently placing it onto the baking tray. This is no ordinary kitchen. This is the Qi Zhi Vocational Training Center. It's a place where the disabled can enjoy the opportunity to learn life skills through baking.

I usually get here around 7am, if there's a lot of orders. (What do you bake?) I can make Taiwanese style bread such as pineapple bun, taro, macha, red beans and almond-taro buns. I really like this job because I have improved a lot.
One may be mixing the dough; one will be in charge of measuring and another do the packaging. Depending on their capabilities, each of the member receives one particular task. The person that's always around, teaching, assisting, reminding them patiently and repeatedly is their teacher. He is also the bakery chef.
==LUO WEI-CUNG, Bakery Chef==
Our job here is not just finishing our own tasks. We also have to teach them. They don't learn as fast as the others out there. Some might take months or even a year to show the achievements. Basically, we just have to repeat and repeat. After a while, they can recognize the types of the bread. Some cannot read numbers, therefore we will find accommodations to assist them.
To teach the students recipes, Chef Luo developed a system where one job would be divided into multiple tasks for each student to accomplish. As the students go through each step, there are tools that are made to increase their independence, such as clearly marked timers, and the squares on the baking tray is designed in a way that the students can have a visual cue of where to put the dough.
Most of the freshly baked bread from the bread factory goes to this cafe. This place provides employment opportunities for people with either intellectual or physical disabilities to serve food, gourmet coffee and some homemade bakery products. It's also a great place for them to engage in social integration and an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and talent.

The work that they do when they fist come here will be fixed. Of course, we hope that they will continue to improve their skills. So when they are more familiar with everything, we will also do some training on site. This is still more of a sheltered workshop, and we would like to see if other organizations can accept them. Therefore, we don't wish to open up a lot of shops. We'd rather see the public and more organizations hire them directly. That's our goal.
Both of these places are truly an incredible opportunity for those who work here to be able to participate in the major activity of every adult's life. This shows that they do have the ability to be successful at the workplace, and all they need is more acceptance in society and more opportunities offered by the government and organizations.
