SONG REPORTS POSITIVE INTERACTION WITH XI AND OTHER LEADERS|APEC峰會閉幕 宋:與習有交流.與21領袖互動 是全壘打

On the last day of the APEC leader's summit in Peru, People First Party Chairman James Soong, who represented Taiwan attended a closed door meeting with other world leaders. However, US President Barack Obama was late to the meeting for about an hour, causing a delay in schedule. After the meeting, Soong held a press conference. He said that he had positive interactions with Russia President Vladimir Putin and the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte . He also confirmed that he had engaged in a private conversation with Chinese President Xi Jin-ping. Wearing Peruvian traditional garb, 21 APEC member leaders posed for group photos. Chinese Taipei's Representative James Soong was trying to find his place and stood next to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore. Before the photo taking, all leaders had a closed door meeting. President Tsai Ing-wen was one of leaders shown in the video. The 30-second APEC video introduces all member leaders of the economic states. However the Peruvian official news agency made errors by introducing James Soong as Hong Kong's Chief Executive Leung Chun Ying, and Soong's daughter Soong Cheng-mai as his wife. The errors were later corrected after receiving complaints from Taiwan. Soong said he had several natural interactions with Chinese President Xi Jin-ping, a major breakthrough since Taiwan President's inauguration on May 20. ==JAMES SOONG, APEC representative== I had a very natural and friendly exchange with the leader of China. I expressed the hope to China for ensuring goodwill for the cross-strait trades, especially to Taiwan's small and medium enterprise. The APEC Declaration includes Taiwan's six important proposals and two actual contributions. The Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) was also included in the Declaration. Taiwan government shows support to the FTAAP. James Soong is scheduled to report to President Tsai when his delegation returns.
