SOONG AND XI HAVE BRIEF CONVERSATION BEFORE APEC MEETING|APEC祕魯峰會 宋楚瑜.習近平會前短暫互動

On the first day of the APEC leader' summit in Lima, Peru, Taiwan's special envoy, People First Party Chairman James Soong appeared at the APEC Business Advisory Council Dialogue, was shown shaking hands with various world leaders. However, many are wondering if Song and Chinese President Xi Jinping had any interactions at the meeting. According to a member of Taiwan's delegation, Song did not talk to Xi publicly, but he did take advantage of a delay of the meeting to engage Xi in a private conversation for about 10 minutes. Taiwan's representative James Soong shook hands with the Peruvian President. Representative Soong is to have exchanges with other world leaders. Among the 21 APEC leaders, Taiwan's representative James Soong was the 17th leader entered the convention. Soong shook hands with President Kuczynski of Peru and posed for a photo opportunity. Soong participated in the forum with other world leaders. He was sitting in between President Putin of Russia and U.S. Trade Representative Froman. Before the forum began, Soong had a photo with President Putin but did not exchange opinions with China's President Xi. The accompanying Legislator Li said the two had a conversation for over ten minutes. ==LI HUNG-CHUN, PFP Legislator== They greeted each other and talked about the policy of cross-strait trades. Taiwan hopes that China can issue an announcement ensuring goodwill for the trading, especially to Taiwan's small and medium enterprise. Earlier that day, President Xi made a firm stance on the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific(FTAAP). ==XI JINPING, President of China== We support multilateral trade institution, promote the free-trade area of the Asia-Pacific and regional comprehensive economic partnership. We urge the negotiations to complete in a near time frame. President Xi was aggressively pushing for the FTAAP. Facing with the situations that the anti-global free trade icon Donald Trump will be in charge by January of 2017, plus President Obama's TPP may not be successful, all participating APEC leaders were anxiously looking for the alternatives. President Obama also attended the convention and met with eleven leaders. Obama reassured them the confidence over the TPP.
