PREMIER MEETS RESIDENTS TALKING OVER RELOCATION ISSUE|林全大林蒲會鄉親 允遷村條件從優考慮

On November 19, Premier Lin Chuan visited the Talinpu village at Kaohsiung's Siaogang District to discuss with local residents whether the village should be relocated. Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu promised that the local government will offer favorable conditions in terms of relocation. Premier Lin Chuan and Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu expressed their apology to Talinpu residents over the relocation issue. On November 19, Talinpu residents crowded the community center to express worries over long-term industrial pollution exposure to Lin. The residents not only gave advice on compensation matters but also said that only industry transformation can truly solve their problem. ==CHANG WEN-JU, Talinpu village resident representative== After relocation, if the heavy industry continues to develop and cause pollution as before, then I think the outcome will remain the same. ==HUANG KUN-NAN, Talinpu village resident representative== Only land and house owners can be given the chance to speak. Phantom population does not have the right to vote. Residents drew lots to decide 30 representatives to speak for them. One representative said they will not accept relocation because it is factories producing pollution that should be relocated. ==HUNG MIN-HSIUNG, Talinpu village resident representative== The inmates have taken over the asylum. This is ridiculous. We will never relocate. Chen said she is opposed to high polluting industries. After relocation, the land will not be used as petrochemical plant site. Lin promised that the government will solve pollution problems and offer local residents favorable conditions to relocate their homes. ==LIN CHUAN, Premier== We will take all residents' living quality into consideration. We will offer local residents favorable conditions in terms of the right to own the land and houses. Things will not be worse than it is now. Before the meeting started, Lin visited two temples. Outside the temple, environmental groups protested against the expansion of a landfill site in Kaohsiung. There were no conflicts during the protest.
