A band formed by prisoners in Indonesia's Bali recorded a rock-ballad album titled Time To Change, containing songs about the perils of drugs and life behind bars. They hope their album "Time To Change" will inspire others to stay away from narcotics.
Antrabez, a band made up of eight convicts in Bali, Indonesia, made their stage debut on Saturday, October 29 in Kerobokan Prison, performing rock ballads about the perils of drugs and life behind bars. The band was formed in July this year. All members, including two women, are in prison serving a variety of sentences between 3 months and 4 years for drug crimes.

People out there can say that we're the garbage of society. But sometimes, garbage is useful. When we recycle garbage, sometimes we create a better product, compared to the original factory product.
The band hopes to find funding to release their album to the public in the next few months. They also hope that this album, "Time To Change", will inspire others to stay away from narcotics. However, practicing in prison isn't an easy task. Being a mix of women and men, full band practice can only take place under supervision. Despite these difficulties, the band has released two music videos. One of them is called "Be Grateful For Your Experiences", directed by Erick Est.
It shows lead singer Dwi Febri singing behind bars, along with a montage of life in prison.

When I was first contacted by the head of the prison as well as the association for inmates, I first studied their songs and their songs were really nice, very touching and all about their real stories.
Indonesian law mandates rehabilitation for people caught with small quantities of drugs but due to a cut in budget this year, many end up in crowded jails. Head of Kerobokan Prison Slamet Prihantara said, when they introduced the program to society, many people have supported them. He hopes the success of Antrabez as their first prison band will tout the benefits of rehabilitation programs.
