MAYOR SAYS DEVELOPMENT WILL NOT AFFECT RARE WILDLIFE|沙崙綠能科學城啟用 賴:不影響草鴞棲息地

On November 6, a ceremony was held to launch a [green energy technology park project] in Tainan's Shalun area. The park IS to become a stronghold of green energy industry in Taiwan. During the event, Tainan City Mayor William Lai denied a report that said the project is aimed to seize farmland. He also emphasized that the project will not affect the habitat of African grass owls, when questioned by environmental groups. On Nov. 6, the Executive Yuan launched a green energy technology park project in Tainan's Shalun area. Premier Lin Chuan said the project aims to make the Shalun area the pioneer of Taiwan's green energy industry through industry-government-university-academy cooperation ==LIN CHUAN, Premier == The park will play two roles in our plan. It will integrate resources among industry- government-university-academy cooperation. It will also serve as a testing facility. The project is a part of President Tsai Ing -wen's plan to develop the five innovative industries. Tainan City Mayor William Lai is pleased with the project, saying that with the park's establishment, people in Tainan no longer have to leave their homes for better job opportunities. During Lai's speech, he clarified that the project is not a scheme to seize the property of the Shalun Farm, and it will not affect the habitat of African grass owls, as questioned by the public and environmental groups. ==WILLIAM LAI, Tainan City Mayor== The colored area is where the park is going to be located. The 22-hectare park near the Taiwan High Speed Rail's Tainan Station will comprise a 5-hectare joint research center and a 17-hectare testing facility. The park is to develop renewable energy sources, in particular solar power, offshore wind power, energy storage technology, energy conservation technology and system integration engineering. It is hoped that Shalun can be recognized as the synonym for green energy by the world.
