Weekend library on the floor in Taipei train station /

The main hall of Taipei Main Station has become a weekend gathering place for many Indonesians working in Taiwan. Yet near the south-eastern corner of the station, a small group of them would gather in front of several suitcases of books every Sunday afternoon. Let's find out exactly what attracted them.
Every weekend, migrant workers in Taiwan gather at Taipei Train Station. Here they make friends and catch up on each other's lives. But if you walk towards the south-eastern corner of the main hall, you will see a few suit cases lying around, all containing books written in Indonesian. This project, called "the library on the floor," is in fact the result of Taiwanese-Indonesian collaboration.

I'd rather they spend time on books than just running around doing nothing. Reading is good for them, and if they run into trouble, they can come look for me here.
After seven years of working as a caretaker in Taiwan, Tantri has become a mother figure for many young Indonesian expats. At first, she was the only one running a library here, but soon, she met a like-minded couple.
==LIAO YUN-CHAN, Founder of Library on the Floor==
We already have a book store in Zhonghe called Brilliant Time, but getting there is difficult for many migrant workers. So we thought, maybe we should bring the books to where they gather, and when we came here, we saw Tantri was already here, and the three of us decided to do this together.
After making new friends, Tantri got these new suitcases.
==CHANG CHENG, Founder of Library on the Floor==
So we had these see-through cases. She used to have hers, but they were regular ones, and every weekend people thought she was running away.
In fact, the whole idea of the library originated from a simple yet touching story.
==CHANG CHENG, Founder of Library on the Floor==
We got to know an Indonesian girl called Erin. She had been in Taiwan for two to three years, but she rarely got time off. And she told us, if she could read, she would be made free.
Last year, the number of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan exceeded 250 thousand, but despite such a large local presence, books written in Indonesian are still hard to come by.
==RIRI, Library Goer==
This one is about how us muslims should go about things. Because here in Taiwan, Indonesian books are hard to find. Most are written in Chinese, which we don't understand.
==SASA, Library Goer==
I was a big reader in Indonesia. I've been in Taiwan for quite a while, and I rarely come across Indonesian books. Then I was here one day and I saw them. I asked, why are there so many books here? Can I borrow some? They said yes, just take a look.
Nearby, a crowd begins to gather. And we are told it is one of Tantri's spontaneous workplace seminars.
==TANTRI SAKHINA, Founder of Library on the Floor==
If we don't try to teach them about the workplace, when the run into problems, they won't know how to deal with them.
Through reading, people are made free. The Library on the Floor in the hall of Taipei Train Station not only helps enrich the lives of migrant workers, but also brings people closer together in a busy and sometimes overwhelming city.

Erin
TANTRI SAKHINA==
