AIT will help Taiwan enhance regional role / 莫建:美將助台灣 區域扮演更重要角色　　　　　　　　　　

On Oct. 25, President Tsai Ing-wen met with the new Chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan, James Moriarty, and called for the US to help Taiwan in participating in international affairs. After the new administration took office, China has put pressure on Taiwan, forcing it out of participation in international organisations. Moriarty promised to support Taiwan to play a more important role in the region. President Tsai Ing-wen met with James Moriarty, the new Chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan, the US representative body. They have known each other for many years and interacted warmly. Tsai thanked the US for its long term adherence to the Taiwan Relations Act and the six pledges, and hoped that the US can help Taiwan to support Taiwan's participation in international affairs. ==TSAI ING-WEN ROC President== Taiwan has the will and the ability to offer specifics to the global community. Compared to the US, Taiwan is small, but we have the same concept of adherence to democracy, human rights and justice. After the Tsai administration took office, China has put pressure on Taiwan, forcing it out of participation in international organisations. Tsai hoped that the US would support Taiwan's participation in international affairs and continue to deepen and consolidate the relationship between Taiwan and the United States. Moriarty said that Taiwan's democratic development and the consolidation of Taiwan-US relations was something that20 to 30 years ago seemed impossible but now there are more Americans who understand the role that Taiwan plays globally and the US will help Taiwan to play a more important role in the region. ==JAMES MORIARTY, Chairman, American Institute in Taiwan== Taiwan's role internationally and in the region, I think that the US hopes to see Taiwan play a broader role, we will do what we can to support that. Moriarty emphasized that the US will support Taiwan, for example, as a stronger influence in the Global Counterterrorism Forum, which is an informal, multilateral counterterrorism platform. He looked forward to closer cooperation with Taiwan.
