October 11 marks the International Day of the Girl Child. Since 2013, Taiwan has observed the day by organizing events to promote women's rights. This year, the Garden of Hope foundation invited four Asian Girls' Human Rights ambassadors to share their experiences about how they have fought for women's rights.
I want to be brave for myself.
Girls formed a circle and passed the torch symbolizing women's independence. Asian Girls' Human Rights ambassador Hadiqa Bashir of Pakistan talked about her vision. She is devoted to ending child marriage and bringing Pakistan girls back to school.
==HADIQA BASHIR, Asian Girls' Human Rights ambassador==
The solution to child marriage is education and awareness. In the world country, we want to we are equal. The boys do anything we also do anything.
Inessa Arshakyan, who is from Armenia, is also an ambassador for Asian girls' human rights. To improve women's rights in her country, she served as a volunteer in non-profit organizations to promote women's education and health.
==INESSA ARSHAKYAN, Asian Girls' Human Rights ambassador ==
Our country has less problems than some other countries, but still this problem remains very important. I think organizing more meetings and trainings for women to know they also have rights will be helpful for them.
Young girls stood up for women's rights. They raised a pink girls' flag to raise the public's awareness of girls.
==CHI HUI-JUNG, Director, Garden of Hope Foundation==
We hope that in every country, girls can be given equal opportunities for success. All countries should invest in girls' education. The United Nations believe that girls are the hope for the future. If we invest in girls, then all women in the future will be able to get rid of poverty.
Despite the rising awareness of women's rights all over the world, gender inequalities still persist in many Asian countries. After a decade of effort, the Taiwan government made October 11 Taiwan Girls' Day in 2013, setting a new marker for awareness of women's rights in Taiwan.
