PRESIDENT TSAI REITERATES MAINTENANCE OF STATUS QUO|蔡重申兩岸維持現狀 不在壓力下屈服

On Oct 8, President Tsai Ing-wen gave a speech at an international symposium on the South China Sea dispute and Asian Pacific peace and security. She said that maintaining the status quo and cross-strait peace is the choice of the Taiwanese. Also, in her inaugural address back in May, she has expressed sincere goodwill to China. Tsai said, Taiwan will not yield to pressure, or revert to antagonism. Cross-strait relations have been in a deadlock since President Tsai Ing-wen took office. President Tsai mentioned cross-strait relations again when she attended an event, stressing that she has expressed a great deal of goodwill during her inaugural address. Taiwan will not succumb to pressure, but will not actively antagonize China, either. ==TSAI ING-WEN, R.O.C. President== In my inaugural address, I have expressed a great deal of goodwill. Our stance is clear. Our commitment and goodwill remain the same. We will not yield to pressure. At the same time, we will not go back to the old ways of antagonism. President Tsai stressed that maintaining the status quo is the choice of the Taiwanese public, not her personal choice. She called on China to resume dialogue. ==TSAI ING-WEN, R.O.C. President== Cross-strait peace and stability is key to the security in the Asia Pacific. Both Taiwan and China should maintain rational and calm. President== While there have been many setbacks, our hard work, along with Taiwan's substantive significance in the international community, has garnered support from our diplomatic allies, the US, Japan, and many European countries. Taiwan's first National Day celebration since the new administration took office will take place on Oct. 10. People are watching if Tsai will put forward new statements on cross-strait relations.
