TORRENTIAL RAINS CAUSE MUDFLOW TO FLOOD MANJHOU|屏東恆春大雨 滿州鄉泥流淹沒道路

On Oct. 8, The Hengchun Peninsula has been affected by Typhoon Aere. Torrential rains covered Manjhou Township's Yongjing Village, resulting in flooding in the old highway and Xinzhuang Road areas. While the flood has receded after the rain slowed down, repeated flooding during rainy weather has been a serious issue for local residents. Waves of muddy debris came tumbling down the hill, threatening to engulf residences on both sides and covering an old highway at Manjhou Township's Yongjing Village. Drivers had to slow down and pass carefully. On Oct. 8, Typhoon Aere brought torrential rains in Yongjing Village. Streets were covered in flood waters that were 15 cm deep. ==PAN YI-FU, Yongjing Village Chief== The flooding started around 9 am this morning. It was scary. I was really worried because we have residences on both sides. Flooding occurs in areas around Xinzhuang Road everytime it rains. The water level reached 70 cm. According to the Central Weather Bureau, Changle Village experienced the highest precipitation of 169 mm in Pingtung County. In the afternoon, flood waters finally receded as the rain subsided. Due to circulation at the outer rim of the storm, waves over 1 meter high were observed at the South Bay in Kenting. Concerns were raised when some surf coaches conducted training sessions in this weather. ==SURF SHOP OWNER, Nanwan== We all have our safety gear, and we stayed in shallow waters, so safety is not a concern. Kenting National Park Headquarters said that they will raise red flags to warn visitors when waves reach over 1 meter high. All water activities will be prohibited in case of waves over 2 meters. In the past two days, waves reached as high as 1.75 meters. ==VISITOR== For regular visitors like us this is quite scary, but for skilled surfers maybe these are the kind of waves they like. ==VISITOR== It definitely feels a bit dangerous, we won't go into the sea, just take a walk on the beach.
