The US Senate and House both overrode President Obama's veto and passed the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) with an overwhelming majority. The JASTA is a law which will allow 9/11 victims and their families to sue the Saudi Arabian government for facilitating terrorism. This is the first time in Obama's 8-year term that the president's veto is overturned by Congress. The White House said the passage of the bill was a mistake because it can damage the US-Saudi Arabia relationship and may also cause the US to be sued for its military operations overseas by other countries.
The US Senate and House both passed the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act with an overwhelming majority vote of 97-1 and 348-77, respectively, which allows the survivors and victims' families to file lawsuits against the Saudi government for the 9/11 terrorist attacks

If the Saudi government had no involvement in 9/11, it has nothing to fear. But if it was culpable, it should be held accountable.
Because 15 of the 19 hijackers of the 9/11 terrorist attacks are Saudi citizens, many families of victims believe that Al-Qaeda, which masterminded the attacks, was in fact funded by Saudi Arabia. These families want to punish foreign governments that support terrorism by bringing their cases to court. The JASTA was passed by the congress earlier, but was then vetoed by President Obama on the grounds that it would violate sovereign immunity and jeopardize the ties between the US and Saudi Arabia. It may also open the floodgates for the US government to face the same charges for its military operations overseas. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that since it is the election year, many congress members voted for political reasons and are not even familiar with the content of the bill.
==BARACK OBAMA, US President==
It's a dangerous precedent, and it's an example of why sometimes you have to do what's hard.
During his eight years in office, President Obama has used his veto right 12 times. This is the only time his veto has been overturned. While Saudi Arabia has invested large sums of money in lobbying, it was unable to stop the passing of the JASTA legislation. It is speculated that Saudi Arabia may retaliate by selling US-dollar assets, avoiding official contact, deterring its GCC allies from cooperating with the US on counter-terrorism, or restricting the use of air force bases by the US. The demand for US dollars in the Saudi foreign exchange market has slightly declined, and experts believe the market will cool down for a period of time.
