Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corp's Changhua plant has been denied its license renewal. Thus, the firm's three boilers have ceased operations. Over one thousand employees and downstream vendors will lose their jobs. Formosa Chemicals employees criticized the county government for deliberately blocking their application and threatened to launch street protests to voice their anger. Formosa Chemicals also filed for a court order to continue its operations. The company said it submitted its application for license renewal in mid-June but has been rejected over 30 times by the Changhua county government. The employees said this is a deliberate attempt by the county government and vowed to take to the streets to protest the decision. ==FORMOSA CHEMICALS EMPLOYEE== I am very disappointed. Taiwan is going down the drain. The government is abusing its power and not doing its job. This is too much. We will definitely launch a demonstration in protest. As the Formosa Chemicals plant was suspended, over one thousand employees and downstream vendors will also lose their livelihood as well. They said they have tried to plead their case with the county government but has been rejected over and over again. Formosa Chemicals has also filed for a court order that will allow the boilers to continue their operations before the verdict was finalized. Formosa Plastics Group also condemned the county government for failing to do its job properly.
