Access to Lishan and Renai cut off after roads collapse / 風災聯外道路中斷 梨山一度成孤島　　　　　　　　　　

Typhoon Megi brought heavy wind and rain to the central mountain regions. Banks collapsed along many service roads in Nantou County's Renai District, blocking access to many mountain villages. Large earth-moving vehicles have moved in to start clearing the roads. Access to Taichung's Heping and Lishan areas have also been cut off. Taichung City and Lishan both experienced strong wind and heavy rain during the typhoon. Mountain areas are almost completely without electricity. Due to the difficulty of making repairs there, power was not restored until Sept 28 at midday. Parts of Provincial Highway 8A, and Provincial Highway 7A, linking the area to the outside world are still cut off. ==LEE MING-YI Heping District Huanshan Precinct Police Chief== On Provincial Highway 7A towards Yilan at the 53.7 kilometer mark, the road's foundations are washed away and there are trees down. So there is no access to Yilan. Towards Dayuling on Provincial Highway 8A at the 97.7 kilometer mark, a landslide is being removed. Towards Guguan the road's foundation has also been washed away. Police say that due to landslides, collapsed embankments, and fallen trees, these three access roads are all cut off, leaving Lishan an island. The Directorate General of Highways is working hard to open a road towards Guguan. Nantou County's Renai mountain district is in much the same position, with landslides cutting off service roads along Nantou Provincial Highway 89. Police say many service roads have collapsed embankments and they have cordoned them off and warned the public that access to Faxiang, Lixing and Cuihua villages is obstructed. Nantou County have brought in heavy earth moving vehicles to clear roads as soon as possible.
