On September 12, Chinese Taipei powerlifter Lin Tzu-hui won the first medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for Taiwan. Lin lifted 131 kg in her final try and won a bronze medal in women's 79kg powerlifting. Lin said she will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, which will be her sixth Paralympic Games. After winning bronze in women's 79kg powerlifting for her fifth Paralympic Games, Lin Tzu-Hui showed her medal, all smiles. Optimistic as she looks, Lin had a hard time facing her disability when she was little. ==LIN TZU-HUI, powerlifter== When I saw others walking, I wasn't able to accept the fact that I couldn't walk. Later on, I told myself that my condition wouldn't be any worse than it is now. Changing her mindset, Lin started to view things positively. Lin entered a whole new world. ==LIN TZU-HUI, powerlifter== Attracting positive friends into my life has helped me a great deal. So far, I have met so many positive friends and benefactors that I believe I am a fortunate girl. Lin began practicing powerlifting at the age of 17. She became a powerlifter 2 years afterwards. So far, she has participated in the Paralympic Games for 5 times, winning 2 gold medals and 2 bronze medals. Lin said she plans to retire after the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics . ==LIN TZU-HUI, powerlifter== I will continue to practice powerlifting until the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics is over. I am now a graduate student. After graduation, I want to become a coach. Perhaps, being a coach and an athlete at the same time. I would like to become a full-time coach after the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Hoping to win another Paralympic medal, Lin will continue to practice powerlifting and participate in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. She hopes that she can share her story to encourage more people to have faith in themselves.
