Train drivers in the Taiwan Railways Administration complained that they are overworked and understaffed. Some conductors who work late at night, said they sleep less than four hours before their next shift. And now 400 TRA workers are demanding that the TRA adjust their shifts, increase subsidies and add staff. Otherwise they will work-to-rule, and take the Mid-Autumn holiday off.
The ticket counters in railway stations are always busy with ticket personnel working hard to service the queues. Train drivers protested and want to take the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday off. Now transport workers on night shifts, who are on from 8 pm until 8 am the next day and repeat the shift after 24 hours, are also protesting. Their next shift starts again at 8 am. Although there is an interval of 24 hours in between, they have to be at the station for three days continuously. There are also train conductors who are on duty late into the night, and have less than four hours to sleep before they have to go on duty again. There is a continuous cycle of this schedule of shifts and no extra pay for night work.

Recently, we've been considering cutting services, especially less necessary services at off-peak times that have fewer passengers.
The TRA currently has about 4,000 transport workers and 400 of these have demanded the TRA modify their shifts, increase subsidies and add staff. If not, they will launch the first ever Mid-Autumn Festival work-to-rule, which means they will not work on the national holiday. The TRA said it has dealt with lack of staff by cutting services and adjusting shifts. It will continue to communicate with the union about additional pay for night shifts. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications plans to reduce road traffic over the Mid-Autumn Festival by asking highway buses to add extra services. They will offer 15 percent discounts for journeys over 100 km on at least 65 routes.

Reporter: Would you change to long distance bus? I suppose so. Why? Because it is cheaper.
==PASSENGER==
But taking the long distance bus you get stuck in traffic.
Hoshin Buses from Banciao to Taichung will have the biggest discounts with the original NT$375 dropping to NT$280. The National Association for Bus Transport will announce routes with discounts this week and then open booking.
