PRESIDENT TSAI'S FIRST MILITARY EXERCISE AS COMMANDER IN CHIEF|漢光演習8/22展開 蔡首度以統帥身分參與

The annual Han Kuang military exercises will be held on Aug 22. President Tsai Ing-wen will participate for the first time in her capacity as commander in chief. This time the Ministry of National Defense has arranged for an additional military drill in the Hsuehshan Tunnels on a blocked tunnel scenario. Also, for the first time, National Airborne Service Corps helicopters and civil information technology personnel will be recruited to take part in the exercise. The annual Han Kuang military exercises will be held from Aug. 22 to 26. The Ministry of National Defense held a press conference to describe the contents of the drill. This will be a simulation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army invading Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu and is a defense operation, maintenance of combat power and a joint attack exercise. President Tsai Ing-wen will participate for the first time in her capacity as commander in chief and will go to Pingtung to watch the Lianyong Exercise. Another point of focus is the drill on a scenario of having Hsuehshan Tunnel blocked on the evening of Aug. 24. ==CHUNG SHU-MING, Coordinated Defense Planning Dir., MND== This time the MND coordinated with the MOTC on the third quarter fire practise to lessen the financial burden and we chose a period after the rush hour so as not to impact traffic. For the first time, the National Airborne Service Corps will be included in the Han Kuang exercise, with its new Black Hawk helicopters. ==CHUNG SHU-MING, Coordinated Defense Planning Dir., MND== For the first time the National Airborne Service Corps with their new Black Hawk helicopters together with AS 365 helicopters will be included in the exercise. We planned two theme exercises, one is fast response and the other is rescue of injured military personnel. In addition, to respond to new age attack models, civil information technology personnel will also take part in the exercise to verify overall network capability for the military offensive and defensive networks. The MND has yet to decide how such personnel are to be recruited, and said it will discuss this further so did not want to explain.
