College fair offers big scholarships / 大學分發4.6萬人創新低 美大學跨海搶招　　　　　　　　　　

Getting an education is important, while, in Taiwan, it is even an important family affair. A college fair kicked off yesterday, which saw large crowd of students packed the venue with their parents. This year marks the lowest number of students registered for the college entrance exam, leading the enrollment rate to be nearly 99 percent. In order to attract students to enroll, some schools are offering high amount of scholarship as incentives. The annual college fair in Taipei is crowded with many students and parents, staff are busy at dispatching information packets. The Asia University offers the highest amount of scholarship: NT$4,800,000. Its target students are those who rank at top 3% tier on advanced subjects test. ==CHEN TA-CHENG, Dean of Academic Affairs, Asia University== For those who rank at top 3% tier and choose to study at Asia University, the amount of scholarship could be as high as NT$3,600,000, plus a stipend of NT$1,200,000 for master and doctoral graduate studies. In addition to public and private universities in Taiwan, there are some overseas colleges and institutes from the US and Hong Kong looking for potential students. They point out that Taiwan students now have more dynamic choices on academic majors and subjects, and some students accomplished outstanding academic achievements. ==REPRESENTATIVE TAI, University of Massachusetts== Many students inquired about academic subjects such as travel, hotel management, or criminal studies these kinds of unique majors. I think Taiwanese students have developed their own ability on exploring unique academic fields. Education is a serious matter, students and parents are taking all factors for careful consideration. Although scholarship is one of major elements for enrollment, but individual interest and job opportunity continue to be the main factors for consideration. ==STUDENT== My interest is sort of just one kind, and my future job might be related with commercial business. ==PARENTS== Have to see his own interest, and know what he would like to be in the future. We make choice based on these. This year marks the lowest number of students registered for college entrance exam. The number is 46,000 students. The enrolment rate is expected to be nearly 99%. From July 24th to 28th are the dates for students to fill out their academic priorities, and the admissions will be posted by August 8th.
