Meanwhile, TV celebrity Li Tien-i and her husband have also been listed as defendants in a breach of trust case, in which they are suspected of over-reporting US$250,000 in a wild animal transaction with Sanlih E-Television CEO Chang Rong-hua.
Former Sanlih E-Television presenter Li Tien-i's husband, Kuo Jen-chieh, was silent upon arrival at the district prosecutors office. When a reporter asked him if he over-reported expenditures, he couldn't resist responding.
Reporter: “Why not give us an explanation.”
Kuo Jen-chieh, Defendant: “I hope there won't be any use of public authority to interfere with normal contract negotiations. I would also like to ask all reporters to understand the actual situation. Thank you.”
Li and her friend Li Wu-ta were taken by Investigation Bureau personnel to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for a second round of questioning. Upon seeing cameras, Li Tien-i told reporters to be careful but didn't respond to their questions.
Reporter: “Do you think CEO Chang (Chang Rong-hua) is settling accounts?”
Li Tien-i, Defendant: “The weather is very cold, so please be careful. Thank you.”
Prosecutors questioned the trio on Feb. 21. Many years ago, Sanlih E-Television CEO Chang Rong-hua took over Wanpi World Safari Zoo. At that time, he used a joint venture operated by the trio to import animals including rhinos. Prosecutors discovered that the trio over-reported the import price for a profit of US$250,000 or approximately NT$7 million. They have been indicted for breach of trust. After another round of questioning, bail was set at NT$500,000, NT$400,000 and NT$300,000 for Li Tien-i, Kuo, and Li Wu-ta, respectively. Meanwhile, the television company said Li Tien-i already resigned and all her presenter duties were suspended after the case entered the judicial process. Another presenter has been assigned to the program she previously presented. Wanpi World Safari Zoo said it cannot comment as the investigation is not public. The trio all posted bail and departed immediately, ignoring the media as they left.
