Taipei launched the per-bag trash collection fee program in 2000. Over these two decades, the trash volume has been reduced by 60 percent. To mark the program's 20th anniversary, the Taipei City Government invited illustrator Jimmy Liao to design a special commemorative dual-purpose bag.

Jimmy Liao's charisma and influence will make people want to always have the bag on hand. It would be great if they end up reluctant to throw it away.
Taipei launched the per-bag trash collection fee program in 2000. At that time, the daily trash volume was 2,931 tons. By 2012, it had been reduced to 989 tons. The daily volume in recent years has been around 1,000 tons. The city's Department of Environmental Protection says the trash volume has been decreased by 60 percent.
This not only improves our city image, but also makes eco-friendly practices fashionable. The bags can be used repeatedly, reducing plastic use and reducing generated trash.
The department adds six million of the commemorative bags have been produced. Reusing it just once can reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by nearly the annual carbon absorption of Daan Forest Park.
