ROC citizens returning to Taiwan are traveling in full protective gear. On Mar. 20, Taoyuan International Airport consolidated flights coming in from the US and Australia. Taoyuan International Airport Corp. also sent additional "epidemic prevention" vehicle fleet to 400 taxis at Taoyuan and 100 at Songshan Airport.
Travelers are wearing masks, goggles, and head-to-toe protective gear onto planes. Some arriving in Taoyuan on flights from the US and Australia on the 20th said they were too scared to take their masks off to eat or drink during their flight.
I didn't eat or drink on the flight. Neither of us did. (So you wore your masks the entire time?) Yes. We never took them off.
I flew in from Newark, in New Jersey. (Were you wearing all this protective gear from the time you boarded your flight to arriving in Taiwan?) I had three connecting flights before getting back to Taiwan.
Travelers are required to submit health affidavits and other documents for approval upon landing and can't clear customs until they are issued a residential quarantine notice. Some of the forms can be filled out online.
We've been following the news in Taiwan, so we knew about the home quarantine regulation and that we had to fill out a form online and download something. So, we filled out the form before we left and we cleared customs quickly.
Can't take the high-speed rail, so of course it's better to have buses (available). It's cheaper anyway. (Rental) "epidemic prevention" cars cost twice the price of the high-speed rail. Right, so that's pretty expensive. It's only NT$400 this way.
According to the airport, 7,628 travelers will leave Taoyuan and 5,716 will enter on the 20th for total traveler volume of 13,398. Taoyuan International Airport Corp. has increased its "epidemic prevention fleet" to 400 taxis at Taoyuan and 100 at Songshan, along with 200 rental cars and 50 tour buses. Wait time is estimated at around 30 minutes.
