The calls for a "Han Kuo-yu-Eric Chu" pairing for the 2020 presidential election are gaining momentum. According to the latest reports, Lee Shu-chuan, who is currently working as Han's deputy mayor in Kaohsiung and who previously served as Chu's deputy mayor, is acting as a mediator between the two and has asked Chu at least three times to consider pairing up with Han.
During a Kuomintang press conference, Legislator Hsu Shu-hua, former Legislator Sun Ta-chien, and other members of Kaohsiung City Mayor Han Kuo-yu's campaign team criticized former Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu for failing to account for how donations for the 2014 Kaohsiung gas explosions were used. They asked the Control Yuan to investigate. The 2020 presidential election is approaching, and the KMT has repeatedly made moves to expose the shortcomings of Democratic Progressive Party heavyweights. According to news reports, Kaohsiung City Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan has asked former New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu at least three times to consider pairing up with Han for the presidential election. However, he has not received a clear response.
I believe they're still discussing the issue, and I also believe he very much respects Mayor Han Kuo-yu. I think he is still in the midst of the entire process of finding a running mate.
There is a possibility that Foxconn Group founder Terry Gou may split with the pan-blue camp to run on his own, taking with him the "economic" and "information" pan-blue votes. Some believe a Han-Chu pairing will be able to consolidate the voter base.
Mayor Eric Chu and I have common ideals, and both of us want to make the country better. We also share a friendship, a relationship that has existed for over 20 years. We also share the same concerns about Taiwan's future. Our communication channels are very fluid.
All of the Kuomintang heavyweights hope to overturn and transform Taiwan in 2020. I believe this is everyone's consensus. As we all share this consensus, I absolutely believe that all heavyweights inside the Kuomintang will work together to achieve this objective.
Han did not directly comment on the possibility of pairing up with Chu. His campaign office said his running mate could be any of the party's heavyweights, including Chu. Meanwhile, Chu's office said he is willing to be of assistance no matter what his position is. It appears both sides remain open to such a possibility.
藍營記者會上，包括立委許淑華、前立委孫大千等的韓國瑜陣營成員，一字排開，痛批前高雄市長陳菊，氣爆善款交代不清的事，要求監察院一定要查清楚。由於2020大選將至，藍營頻頻出招，打擊綠營衝人氣；現在還傳出，高雄市副市長李四川，至少3度向朱立倫表達「韓朱配」的建議，不過，都未獲明確回應。
國民黨團總召 曾銘宗表示：「我相信還在溝通，我相信他也非常尊重韓國瑜市長，他到底要找誰當競選的夥伴，我相信整個還在協調。」
尤其藍營陷入鴻海創辦人郭台銘，可能出走的分裂危機，可能帶「經濟藍」和「知識藍」的選票，外界認為，「韓朱配」正可以互補固票源。
高雄市長 韓國瑜表示：「我跟朱立倫市長都有共同的理想，希望整個國家能夠越來越好，也有共同的交情，都20年以上的交情，那也有共同的擔心，就是擔心台灣的未來，溝通的管道都是非常暢通的。」
韓國瑜競選團隊北辦副執行長 孫大千表示：「國民黨內所有重量級的政治人物，對於在2020年，希望能夠翻轉台灣、改變台灣，我相信這是大家最大的共識，那基於這樣的共識，我絕對相信所有國民黨內重量級的政治人物，會一起來努力，達到這樣的目標。」
對於「韓朱配」，韓國瑜沒有正面回應，韓陣營則說，包括朱立倫等任何黨內重量級人士，都可能是邀請擔任副手的對象；而朱立倫辦公室則回應「不要位置，一定幫忙」，雙方都沒把話說死，各界也靜待「韓朱配」的可能發展。
