Chang Li-shan, the candidate from opposition Kuomintang (KMT) for Yunlin County Magistrate in the upcoming local elections announced that she is officially resigning from her position as a legislator to focus on her campaign. Her competitor, incumbent Yunlin County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung, however, said that now is too late.

As the local elections approach, Chang Li-shan, the candidate from opposition Kuomintang (KMT) running for Yunlin County Magistrate solemnly announced her resignation from her position of legislator. Chang says she has carefully thought about her decision, and believes she simply cannot manage her tasks at the Legislature while running her campaign.

I think, as the local elections approach, I must focus on my campaign. Therefore, I would like to formally announce my resignation from my position as legislator. I hope to run a good campaign for the upcoming election.

Chang said that she did not inform the KMT headquarters about her decision ahead of time, and did so only in the morning of Friday, November 2. Incumbent Yunlin County Magistrate Lee Chin-Yung, who will be running for a second term in office, commented on Chang's move, saying that it's too late for her to resign.

In the recent law amendment, which led to the cancelation of well usage fee (in Yunlin), Chang did not convey anything to the Central government. As legislator from a farming county, she didn't do her job right. It's way too late for her to resign at this point in time, and the move doesn't make any difference since she never fought on behalf of the farmers.

Chang said that resigning as legislator shows her determination to serve Yunlin County. She said she will focus on her campaign and prepare for the upcoming election on November 24. She also refrained from commenting on other KMT members who still hold positions at the Legislative Yuan while running their campaigns. After Chang's resignation, Lin Yi-hua, the head of New Taipei City's Education Bureau, will fill her position, as she is the next on the list of legislators at large nominated by the KMT.
